Clyde Grimes, Jr. Guitarist and Vocalist for The Untouchables Passes Away

The Untouchables "Free Yourself" picture disc featuring
Clyde Grimes, Jr. from my record collection.
I'm very sad to report that Clyde "the City Gent" Grimes, Jr., guitarist and vocalist for the massively influential L.A. ska band The Untouchables, passed away on July 5, 2016.

I offer my deepest condolences to his family, bandmates, friends, and fellow fans.

Back in 2014, I wrote a bit about my personal experience of being a fan (and reviewer) of The Untouchables back the mid-to-late 1980s, and perhaps it can serve as a celebration of Grimes' life and music, as well as a testament to how great The Untouchables were in their prime. If you're interested, you can read my post about The Untouchables here.

Note: This post was updated on 7/9/16, as I had incorrectly listed Grimes' cause of death. I sincerely apologize for making this mistake.

  1. Very sad. He was a true inspiration to us US mods looking for an idol and someone to show us the way.

  2. Dear Duff / Moon, All readers!
This is Chuck Askerneese, alias "Ska-Fa" C.A. original vocalist, & life long mate of Clyde Grimes.
I am posting to set the record straight, Clyde "City Gent" Grimes was not recently, (or ever) diagnosed with cancer!
Clyde simply "went to sleep & passed away peacefully in the night"! Beloved C.G. was a founding member and chief song writer/bandleader of the UT's, & will be forever Loved, Missed, Massively Respected, and Never Forgotten!

You have drastically misquoted former drummer Glenn "StarBoy" Symmonds, who himself is a cancer survivor with a foundation called "Beat Cancer like a Drum". Grimes was supportive to Symmonds when Glenn was diagnosed!
I also am recent a prostate cancer survivor and urge all male readers above 45 years of age to get their PSA levels checked. This could save your life!

  3. Thanks, Chuck. I am so sorry that I got this wrong--I've just corrected the post. I meant to recognize and honor Grimes, not to spread incorrect information. Please accept my sincere apologies.

Very sad to learn(late) of his death.
